POEM NO 1. Africa,my Africa Africa,my birthplace Africa,my Mark Wake up and never get stuck For,it is morning And everybody is awake Wake up,there is light Sleep not,ye Africa. Sleeping,sleeping All day long Sleeping on the footpath Believing That we are in the dark That we can't reach the peak Like them- the bitch Will uncover our bodies. Sleep not,ye Africa. Sleeping in the hut Of whites will support While still we are powerful and young And talking in the language Of manyanga-gabbage Will cut our legs And we shall move no more-lames.
